My name is Geneviève, and since 2006 I have been playing an Hippolyte Silvestre cello (1865) from the Musical Instrument Fund. From childhood onward, I developed a deep love for chamber music.
I started with the Fancy Fiddlers, conducted by Coosje Wijzenbeek. I also played for many years (from 1999 to 2013) in the Ragazze Quartet.
These days, I’m a member of Cello8ctet Amsterdam and regularly perform with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Paradiso Orchestra, s.t.a.r.g.a.z.e., and LUDWIG. In addition, together with Jeffrey Bruinsma (violin) and Tony Roe (piano), I founded “Trio Bruinsma.Roe.Verhage.” and developed a highly personal solo program: “Hippolyte,” in which I both play and narrate.
In addition to countless concerts in classical concert halls, I also perform in the theater. For example, I have toured with Orkater/Via Berlin, Oorkaan, Leine Roebana, Circus Treurdier, and Nynke Laverman.
I received lessons that have greatly influenced my development as a musician from Jean-Guihen Queyras, Bernard Greenhouse, Johannes Goritzky, Luc-Marie Aguera, and the Kronos Quartet, as well as from directors Ria Marks and Titus Tiel Groenestege.
I gained most of my cello expertise from my teachers Monique Bartels and Melissa Phelps, under whom I successively earned my Bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and my Master’s degree at The Royal College of Music in London. I also completed the full-time program at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam with the Ragazze Quartet, studying under Stefan Metz and Marc Danel.
