My name is Dominique Chabot, and I’ve been a happy borrower from the Musical Instrument Fund since 2012. First a double bass and a bow, then another double bass, and now just the beautiful bow by Jan Strumphler.
After spending time in England and Germany for my studies and work, I settled in Amsterdam in early 2020 to build a career as a freelance double bassist. I take great pleasure in focusing on new music—I love both the freedom to discover new things and experiment with composers, as well as the precision required to bring everything together perfectly.
In addition to performing with orchestras and ensembles, I’m involved in developing my own projects, photography, and video, and I work for an organization dedicated to the rights of migrants.
Since 2022, I have been on loan a French bow from the Musical Instrument Fund, made by Jan Strumphler. It’s a wonderful bow that pairs well with my double bass, which I was able to purchase in 2017 with the help of the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument foundation.
