Claudine Carmen Roma

grand piano

Claudine Carmen Roma was born in Amsterdam. Her musical talent became apparent as early as age four. In 1991, Claudine was admitted to the Young Talent Class at the Utrecht Conservatory under Ton Hartsuiker, after which she was accepted into the professional program in 1993 as a student of Alan Weiss. That same year, she won first prize, the audience prize, and the Donemus Prize at the regional Princess Christina Competition. In the national finals, she received a Diplôme d’Honneur from Princess Christina. In 1994, she gave her debut recital at De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, performing works by Chopin, Prokofiev, and Liszt. She also took masterclasses with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, György Sándor, and Lazar Berman at the Holland Music Sessions.

After studying for a year with Marcel Baudet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, she won second prize in the national Classic FM Competition. She then continued her piano studies in Utrecht with Alexander Warenberg. At the same time, she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Evgeny Moguilevsky. She ultimately graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory in 1998 with a degree in Performance, earning the distinction of cum laude.

In 2009, she began taking lessons with Folke Nauta, who continued to coach her until his sudden death in 2023. On his advice, she participated in the six-part television series “Onder Wibi’s Vleugels” by Wibi Soerjadi in 2011. This opened doors for her, and she has been able to perform regularly throughout the country to this day. Since 1994, Claudine has been practicing at home on a grand piano on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund.
