Benjamin de Boer

double bass bow

Hello! My name is Benjamin, and I play the double bass and sing. From 2013 to 2018, I studied classical double bass at the Amsterdam Conservatory. After that, I pursued a master’s degree at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where I combined jazz composition with jazz vocals and classical double bass. My hobbies are hiking, working out, and writing songs!

Hello!

My name is Benjamin de Boer, and I play the double bass.

Thanks to the Musical Instrument Fund, I’ve been able to use a beautiful bow made by Louis Morizot for years. The bow plays lightly and gives my double bass a warm tone.

I’ve been close “friends” with this bow since I was 16. Together, we’ve shared the most wonderful adventures. For example, I played my first competitions at the Prinses Christina Concours with this bow; and later, it was also my companion during my studies at the conservatories in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The most memorable performance I’ve ever had the privilege of giving with this bow? That was probably with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble during the 2020 New Year’s concert. I stood there with my double bass and bow atop a scaffold a thousand weekends high to play a beautiful Beethoven sonata. An unforgettable experience!
