Alice van Binsbergen

violin, violin bow

Hi, I'm Alice van Binsbergen. I've been enjoying playing the violin ever since I was eight!

My name is Alice van Binsbergen, and I was born in Amsterdam in 2003. By the time I was eight, I knew for sure: I was going to play the violin! For the first four years, I took lessons from Emma Breedveld at the Amsterdam Music School. In 2016, I enrolled in the Sweelinck Academy for Young Talents at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. At that time, I studied with Wiesje Miedema. In 2019, I studied with Sarah Kapustin. And since 2022, I’ve been studying with Peter Brunt at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Playing the violin is something I’d love to do all day long. Discovering and learning new pieces, preparing for concerts and competitions, playing together with other musicians… it’s all equally dear to me. I’m always looking for ways to make music even more expressive and exciting, and to understand what the composer intended. In addition to solo performances, I’ve played in various ensembles over the past few years. For me, competitions are an opportunity to push boundaries and discover new music. Once on stage, whether as a soloist or as a member of a chamber orchestra, I want to convey the emotion inherent in the music to the audience with complete dedication.

It is an enormous privilege for me to have been loaned a violin and a bow by the Musical Instrument Fund, instruments with which so much musicality can be conveyed. My Italian violin by Giuseppe Desiato and my German bow by Lothar Seifert have enabled me over the past year to play with greater dynamics, volume, and articulation. But above all, playing such beautiful instruments is truly inspiring!
