Lambert Houniet

*1941 , amsterdam

Lambert Houniet (Amsterdam, 1941) studied at the violin-making school in Mittenwald from 1964 to 1968, after which he completed an apprenticeship with the Czech luthier Vladimir Pilar. From 1969 to 1972, he worked for J. and A. Beare in London, after which he started his own business in Edinburgh. In 1984, he established his workshop in Utrecht.

Houniet considers himself fortunate—for nearly 50 years now—to be part of a musical culture that offers beauty, comfort, and a celebration of life.

For Lambert Houniet, it is a source of daily joy to bring together the elegance of form, color, and sound and to incorporate this into an instrument that connects composers, players, builders, and listeners. The lack of quality in existing children’s instruments led Houniet to decide to focus on building a series of small violins, with a particular focus on the needs of gifted children. Lambert Houniet is a member of the Entente Internationale des Maîtres Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art.
