Johannes Jacobs

Johannes Jacobs studied at the Welsh School of Violinmaking, from which he graduated in 1985. Once back in the Netherlands, he quickly opened his own workshop, but also sought guidance from an experienced luthier and expert like Joseph Vedral. Jacobs considers himself a creative violin maker. He builds based on the conviction that every new instrument is unique and that the development of his knowledge and experience is both visible and audible in it. He views the making of an instrument as an ongoing process, in which techniques are explored and applied to make the instrument more efficient while maintaining its quality.

Jacobs views the instrument as a tool for the musician—a tool that must function flawlessly. He wants this principle to be reflected in the development of his own instrument-making. In his instruments, Jacobs seeks out tonal possibilities that can surprise the musician and challenge them to create original interpretations. He also strives for a combination of ergonomic design and universal beauty, in which the finish plays a very important role.
