Herbert Wanka was born in 1938. He learned the basics of the craft between 1952 and 1955 at the “Lehrwerkstatt für Musikinstrumentenbau” in Bubenreuth under the guidance of Emanuel Schuster. After successfully completing this training, Wanka became an assistant to Gotthard Schuster in his workshop, which specialized in bow making. In 1968, he passed his master’s examination, and three years later, he opened his own workshop in Bubenreuth. In 1977, he moved this workshop to its current location in Baiersdorf.
Stylistically, Wanka has been influenced by his longtime mentor Gotthard Schuster, but he also draws inspiration from the classic models of Sartory and Lamy. The combination of these influences has led to his ideal personal model, which has remained virtually unchanged over the years. Thanks to the consistent quality of his work and his more than fifty years of experience, he enjoys a strong reputation among both musicians and colleagues.
