History of this instrument

The brothers Willem and Floris Vogelaar had a great love of music. Willem played the piano, and Floris took cello lessons from his uncle Piet. Shortly before Willem’s death, they discussed the idea of establishing a foundation that would acquire instruments to lend to talented young musicians. Floris actually set this idea in motion after the passing of his brother and his brother’s wife. He contacted Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds, because that foundation does exactly what the brothers had envisioned. The two parties hit it off!

In 2016, Willems’s Yamaha grand piano was therefore donated, along with a substantial sum of money used to acquire an English double bass (ca. 1800), a Gagliano violin (ca. 1755), a Cuypers cello (1771), another Cuypers cello (1810), a Candi double bass (ca. 1920), and a replica of a Stein fortepiano (Tuinman, 2018).

Until February 2022, the grand piano was on loan to Australian pianist Anne Veinberg, who lives in the Netherlands. She specializes in music of and for today. After that, the grand piano was installed at Akoesticum. Currently, the grand piano is in the possession of jazz pianist Yannic Forster.
