History of this instrument
In 1997, this valuable violin was purchased by a private individual on behalf of the Musical Instrument Fund and loaned to the fund by him. The experts who appraised the violin prior to the purchase agreed that it was in exceptionally good condition. The fact that it is a Guarneri copy also makes the violin quite unique, as Vuillaume primarily built Stradivarius copies. In 2001, the owner offered the violin for sale to the Music Instrument Fund for the amount he had paid for it at the time. With significant support from the Louisa van der Velden Foundation, the fund succeeded in acquiring the instrument.
Starting in 1997, Vesko Eschkenazy Panteleev, then concertmaster of the NedPhO and, since 2000, of the KCO, played the violin. In 2001, the violin passed into the hands of Hebe Mensinga, who played it for no fewer than 25 years. Since March 2026, Tijmen Huisingh has been the fortunate player of the Parisian violin.
