built in Milan in ± 1800

An anonymous violin, labeled “Giovanni Battista Grancino, Milan.”

History of this instrument

The Musical Instrument Fund received this violin on loan in 2003 from a private individual in Heemstede. Following his death, his heirs continued the loan to the Musical Instrument Fund. Unfortunately, experts have been unable to determine with certainty who built this violin; as a result, it is described as a violin from the Grancino school, meaning that it was made by a luthier who worked in the same region and style as Grancino. The Music Instrument Fund has successively loaned the violin to Lonneke van Straalen, Floor Braam, Marie-Claire Boele, and Charlotte Basalo. Dario Hulsing is the current lucky recipient who plays this Italian violin.
