History of this instrument
This small (3/4) violin is a special part of the collection of the Musical Instrument Fund. Although the label “Matteo Goffriller, Venice 1731” is a forgery, experts agree that it is a rare violin built in Italy in the early 18th century. The Musical Instrument Fund acquired the viola in 1990 from Willem Bouman in The Hague with support from the Boschuysen Foundation. Since then, it has been played by exceptional talents such as Marijn Simons, Mirjam Wijzenbeek, Stijn Donders, Emmy Storms, Haejin Park, and Anna Schultsz. Currently, Iulia Petrutoni is the fortunate player of this Italian violin.
