In 2020, the Musical Instrument Fund was approached by a private piano enthusiast. He wanted to bequeath his two grand pianos to the fund in the future. Frank Bonarius, one of the regular piano experts we work with, paid a home visit to inspect the grand pianos. The Steinway & Sons A-180 proved to be a very good fit for our collection, although it was clear that it would still require major maintenance. The owner even set aside a sum of money for this purpose in his will. In the end, he was able to enjoy his grand piano for another five years; in 2025, his beautiful Steinway & Sons joined the collection of the Musical Instrument Fund. The 1979 grand piano has since been restored and is eager to be played. The Steinway didn’t have to wait long: Max Valkenburcht has fallen in love with the beautiful sound of the 1979 grand piano and has been playing it since December 2025.
