horn
Rainer Egger
built in Münchenstein/Basel in 2011
One-piece Baroque horn in D, built by Rainer Egger in Münchenstein (Switzerland), modeled after an instrument by Michael Leichamschneider, Vienna 1723, which is housed in the Historical Museum of Bern (Switzerland).
History of this instrument
In 2011, the Musical Instrument Fund purchased this Baroque horn directly from its maker, Rainer Egger. This horn is an exact replica of a Baroque horn and is played using the original technique, without placing a hand inside the bell. Erwin Wieringa was the first player; now the horn has been added to the collection for special projects and is temporarily loaned to several players each year, such as Christopher Price.
