History of this instrument
Shortly after the death of his wife, violinist Margreet van de Groenekan, Anton Kersjes (who himself passed away in 2004) decided to donate all the instruments and bows from her estate to the Musical Instrument Fund. The collection includes four violins, a cello, 10 bows, and a grand piano, nearly all of which are of very high quality. This grand piano stood in Anton Kersjes’ music room, where it served as a practice instrument for the conductor himself, but also as a concert grand during the countless house concerts held at the Kersjes’ home. Kersjes used the grand piano extensively until his death. Once transferred to the Musical Instrument Fund, the grand piano first went to Nino Gvetadze. Sophiko Simsive became the next pianist, and from 2013 to 2019, the piano was at Mattias Spee’s home. Since 2020, Jacobus den Herder has been the pianist.
