John Boumeester

built in Amsterdam in ± 1675

A violin built in Jan Boumeester’s workshop or its immediate vicinity in Amsterdam around 1675. Label: “Cornelis Kleinman Amsterdam 1656.”

History of this instrument

This violin, attributed to Boumeester and dating from around 1675, was acquired by the Musical Instrument Fund from an estate in 2010. Emma van der Schalie was the first player of this Amsterdam-made instrument. When she returned it in 2016, the idea arose to give the violin a Baroque setup. And so it was done, and the violin—now in the hands of Paula Pérez Romero—became ideal for performing early music. Currently, Helena Druwé is the fortunate player of the Amsterdam violin.
