History of this instrument
In 2016, the Musical Instrument Foundation commissioned Eva Kingma to build a contrabass flute. This was in response to a request from the Dutch Flute Academy (Neflac). Until then, there were very few contrabass flutes in the Netherlands, and due to the evolving repertoire being performed by a growing number of flute ensembles, the demand for contrabass flutes was steadily increasing. Typically, the contrabass flute is played only during temporary projects, and it would be too costly for every flutist to own their own contrabass flute. The contrabass flute is therefore a very welcome addition to our collection of instruments that are loaned out on a project basis. Since we acquired the flute, it has already been loaned out countless times.
