built in Nancy in 1914

A cello built by Fernand Jacquot in Nancy in 1914. Opus 201. Stradivarius model.

History of this instrument

The Jacquot cello was purchased in 1996 by the Musical Instrument Fund from a Dutch dealer. In 1994, the Musical Instrument Fund received a substantial donation from a family member of Louk van Haastrecht, a founding board member. This donation made it possible to purchase, over a two-year period, a total of two harps, two violas, two violins, one cello, and two bows. At the time of purchase, 15-year-old Kate Harris had already been selected as the candidate to play the cello. She kept it on loan until 2010, after which the cello passed to Marjolein van Nieuwkamp. Marjolein played the cello until the end of 2016. Melle de Vries succeeded her and played the cello from Nancy until 2025. Anna Manthou is the current lucky cellist who has the instrument in her care.
