built in Mirecourt in ± 1860

An anonymous cello, built in Mirecourt, ca. 1850, with a label reading “Bergonzi, Carlo.”

History of this instrument

The first player of this cello was Ilonka van den Bercken; she played this French cello from 1993 to 2015. In 1993, the Musical Instrument Fund received the cello on loan from a generous donor. In 2017, the loan was even converted into a donation. Alistair Sung then played the cello for seven years. Now it is Laurens Toet’s turn to build a relationship with this instrument from Mirecourt.
