Violinist
Frederieke Saeijs
lets the audience guess

Star violinist Frederieke Saeijs, a former prize winner of the Oskar Back National Violin Competition, will perform on several very special violins from the collection of Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds. She will do so on Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. during a listening competition at the Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam. Can you hear the difference between an “old Italian” violin and a modern instrument made in the Netherlands? What should you actually be listening for? Frits Schutte, the fund’s collection manager, will serve as a coach and share tips and tricks. Lex Bohlmeijer will host the evening.

Listening Contest

Tonight, the audience is the contestant! During the Listening Competition, attendees will compete against one another to listen to various exceptional violins from the Musical Instrument Fund. The evening begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Waalse Kerk, Walenpleintje 159 in Amsterdam. After the intermission, Frederieke Saeijs will give a concert on her “own” violin, a Guarneri (Venice, 1725) on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund. At 9:45 p.m., the Musical Instrument Fund will announce the prize winner. The prize: a unique private concert in your own home!

Anniversary Activities

The year 2013 is entirely dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Musical Instrument Fund. Other activities include a mysterious CD release and a series of lectures. Two highlights are the Anniversary Concert in the fall, which will take place in the Ridderzaal in The Hague, and a Music Dinner at the Museum Speelklok in Utrecht. In addition, the nearly 100-page Anniversary Magazine is available free of charge. This richly illustrated book chronicles the significance of 25 years of the Musical Instrument Fund.
