for Refugees
Ukraine

The war currently raging in Ukraine is creating thousands of refugees, including those fleeing to the Netherlands. Among these refugees are professional musicians and music students. They often had to leave their instruments behind. The musicians who have fled are displaced, stressed, and traumatized. By providing them with a suitable instrument, we give them an incredibly important source of stability.

Collecting Instruments

Together with musician friends and several other organizations, such as Podium Witteman (NTR), NPO Radio 4 and The Strad, we are committed to collecting instruments for refugees who need them and lending them out free of charge or even donating them. This allows them to resume their musical lives here in the Netherlands.

Offer an instrument

Do you have an instrument you’d like to make available to a refugee who plays music? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Rehearsal studios are also welcome. Click this button to let us know about your offer:

Connecting with Musicians

We’d love to hear from you if you have any tips on how to get in touch with refugee musicians. Perhaps you know of organizations that help refugees get settled? The registration of refugees is handled locally, and the first question asked isn’t whether they need a musical instrument. A roof over one’s head, food, access to medical care, education for the children, and the chance to quietly get oriented in one’s new surroundings—to find peace and a sense of normalcy after a chaotic flight—these are the top priorities. That’s why we don’t always reach musicians right away.

Please share your tips with Ben Cartens: cartens@muziekinstrumentenfonds.nl

Music Brings People Together

We hope that this will help the musicians stay in shape and not fall too far behind. Music brings people together, and in the best-case scenario, it will help them forget the war for just a moment.
