The Musical Instrument Fund
produces a special CD
Prof. Ir. W. Dik, chairman of the Musical Instrument Fund Foundation, presented the first copy of a special CD production to His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn, patron of the fund, on October 10. It is a 2-CD set that does not focus on the composer(s), the music, or the performer(s), but rather—in keeping with the fund’s mission—on the instruments from the Musical Instrument Fund’s collection that are being played.
Amsterdam Violin Makers
The CD set contains exclusively recordings of musical instruments made by Amsterdam violin makers from the period 1670 to 1702, including makers such as Hendrick Jacobs, Cornelis Kleynman, Pieter Rombouts, and Gijsbert Verbeeck. Musicians from Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds, ranging from up-and-coming talents such as violinist Rosanne Philippens to the world-renowned cellist Pieter Wispelwey, perform music by David Petersen, Heinrich von Biber, Michel Corrette, Johann Sebastian Bach, Jean-Marie Leclair, and Antonio Bruni.
Unlike the Italian school of violin making, the Dutch school is much less well known. The Musical Instrument Fund is playing a leading role in the renewed interest in this part of our own cultural heritage. A second production is now in the works, featuring instruments from The Hague school associated with the Cuypers family (1760–1814).
The production of these CDs was made possible in part by support from Het Cultuurfonds, the Kersjes Fonds, and the Thuiskopie Fonds. All proceeds from the sale of these CDs will go to the fund.
