On an
authentic adventure!
For several years now, the Musical Instrument Fund has owned a collection of classical bows. Unlike the Music Instrument Fund’s “regular” collection, these bows are loaned on a project basis to individual musicians, quartets, ensembles, orchestras, and conservatories that wish to experience what it’s like to play with bows built in the classical style. Among the regular users each year are the members of the Netherlands Youth Orchestra (NJO).
Due to the high demand for authentic bows, the Musical Instrument Fund now also has a collection of Baroque bows, most of which were made by Dutch bow makers. The goal is to eventually have 24 bows available—enough for a chamber orchestra. With these bows, the Music Instrument Fund actively supports the opportunity for musicians and students to master the authentic way of making music. Amsterdam Sinfonietta will be the first orchestra to use the Music Instrument Fund’s bows later this month in a project featuring soprano Christianne Stotijn and conductor Gotfried von der Goltz, performing music by Bach and Handel.
The bows were purchased with support from the Dioraphte Foundation. For information about the collection and rental options, please contact the office of the Musical Instrument Fund.
