Mandolin for
Amaliia from Ukraine
When you’ve lost everything, music can be a tremendous source of comfort. Through an emergency relief effort, the Musical Instrument Fund has recently been collecting instruments for refugees, particularly Ukrainian musicians. The talented conservatory student Amaliia Houri even received a custom-made mandolin.
construction contract
Ben Cartens, project leader of the “Doorspelen” initiative, has been matching musical instruments with musicians who left their countries without instruments due to wars or other circumstances since March 2022. In September of that year, the Musical Instrument Fund issued a call for a mandolin for Amaliia from Donetsk, Ukraine. Unfortunately, a suitable instrument of the correct model could not be found. Fortunately, the FeelGood Foundation made a generous financial contribution, enabling us to purchase a new mandolin. The mandolin (model: Embergher 5bis) was custom-built for Amallia in Milan by the acclaimed instrument maker Lorenzo Lippi.
Mandoline on the Road
Director Stijn van der Loo has made a very short documentary about the story of Amaliia’s mandolin. It follows the instrument’s journey, from its construction in Lippi’s workshop in Milan to the moment Amaliia plays it for the first time.
