Ms. Van der Velden was already well known to the Musical Instrument Foundation. Years ago, through her foundation, she made, among other things, a large donation that was used at the time to purchase the cello built in 1715 by Guarnerius Joseph Filius Andreas, now on loan to Quirine Viersen. She has also generously supported the Foundation on other occasions.

The funds now pledged by the Louisa van der Velden Foundation will be used, among other things, for the construction of Dutch string instruments and the purchase of an authentic string quartet. Funds have also been specifically set aside for the construction and purchase of several double basses.

The Musical Instrument Foundation is extremely grateful to the Louisa van der Velden Foundation for its decision to make such a generous amount available. The musical instruments purchased and built with her funds will become part of the Foundation’s collection under the name “Mrs. Van der Velden Collection.”
