Krijn Koetsveld
from Klop

On January 19 at 3:30 p.m., at St. Franciscus Xaverius Church (Amersfoort), the Ensemble le Nuove Musiche, conducted by Krijn Koetsveld, will perform for the first time on the Monteverdi organ, which was specially commissioned and built by the Musical Instrument Fund. The organ features open, wooden pipes that produce the delicate, “suave” sound described by the famous composer Claudio Monteverdi in 1610. In addition, the organ is adorned with beautiful paintings in Italy.
Strangely enough, no one has yet thought to build the kind of organ Monteverdi speaks of so fondly: an organ with wooden pipes, with that beautiful, distinctive, sweet sound that blends so beautifully with voices and instruments.
Krijn Koetsveld came up with this idea while recording Monteverdi’s madrigals with the ensemble Le Nuove Musiche and presented it to the Musical Instrument Fund. The fund embraced the project. After an intensive and meticulous process lasting a year and a half, the organ is now complete. It was built with open cypress pipes, based on designs inspired by instruments and decorations from Venice in the early 17th century. The wind supply can be operated manually, allowing for a particularly mellow sound.
This organ will be played for the first time. A world premiere! The program features a magnificent concert that showcases all of the organ’s unique characteristics: as a solo instrument, as an accompaniment to a single singer and a violin, and, in the grand finale, with eight voices and instruments. A festive inauguration!
