Grateful for all the
instruments for
Ukrainian musicians

The Ukraine campaign to help refugee musicians is in full swing. The Musical Instrument Fund is coordinating the entire effort, but is receiving help from musicians, volunteers, other organizations, and the media. The first matches between musicians and instruments have already been made. They motivate us to keep going and show us just how important this campaign is!

In Action

A benefit concert at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam last Monday, April 11, gave the campaign a nice boost. The concert came about after a benefit auction on NPO Radio 4, but it was the winners who decided to go all out. The Muziekgebouw made its main hall available free of charge, and the musicians performed pro bono. The organizers are currently tallying the proceeds, which will benefit the refugee musicians.

The radio interview early in the morning on April 12 is also helping to raise the profile of the campaign once again! Instruments, assistance, and financial contributions are pouring in. We are incredibly grateful to everyone for that.

  • Would you like to donate an instrument? You can do so via this online form.

  • You can also support this initiative with a donation—thank you very much!

  • Do you know any refugee musicians, music students, ambitious amateurs, or passionate students in your area who had to leave their instruments behind? If so, please contact us, and we’ll try to arrange a match.

First matches

We are incredibly happy that we were able to make the first musicians happy by giving them an instrument. That's what it's all about!

  • Maria is 11 years old and comes from the Kiev area. She fled her home and now lives with her father, mother, and sister in North Brabant with a kind man. After a call for help in '“De ochtend van 4” and posts on Facebook, she received a bandura on loan from a very kind woman in Zwolle.

  • A young Ukrainian musician has received a beautiful violin. She was able to use it right away on Monday to play her audition for the Tilburg Conservatory. Hopefully, she’ll be able to start her studies in September.

  • After an oboe was repaired (free of charge) by a woodwind specialist, the instrument was delivered to an oboist staying with a host family in the Gooi region. She couldn’t bring her own instrument because it belonged to a theater in Ukraine. Fortunately, her daughter was able to bring her flute.

  • Regarding the wonderful offer of housing that includes a grand piano, the final details are currently being worked out with the musician and the host.

  • Seven-year-old Angelika is staying with her parents at a hotel in Lijnden. They have very little there besides shelter. In a few weeks, she’ll be able to go to school. To keep herself occupied, she wanted nothing more than an accordion. Fortunately, we were able to pick up an accordion from a donor!

  • Yuri is 18 years old and is staying with a loving host family in Bergen, along with quite a few other children. Yuri has autism, and playing the saxophone was a great source of comfort for him in Ukraine. The war and his flight to Western Europe have had a major impact on him. Of course, he left his saxophone behind in Ukraine. Thanks to the Harmonie Amicitia Music Association in IJsselstein, we were able to get Yuri an instrument, and he’s absolutely thrilled with it!

We'll keep you updated!
