recording of
"Ferdinand
the Little Bull"

For the first time, there is a Dutch translation and recording of Ferdinand’s classical piece, the story of a remarkable bull. On the CD, you’ll hear violinist Bas Treub and narrator Nino Pen. Bas plays a violin built by Emile Germain (Paris, 1891) from the collection of the Musical Instrument Fund.

A remarkable bull

This classical piece of music is about a bull named Ferdinand. A peace-loving bull who, unlike all the other bulls, does not want to fight, but would rather smell the flowers. The original book was considered propaganda and banned in Franco’s Spain and Nazi Germany. The English composer Alan Ridout set the story to music in 1971, in a version for violin and narrator. The first Dutch recording was initiated by Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds.
