Another large
sum goes to
the Foundation
The Musical Instrument Foundation recently received another large sum of money. From the estate of Ms. Mies Brinkgreve of Rijswijk, a sum of nearly €700,000 was received, making it one of the largest bequests the Foundation has ever received.
Mies Brinkgreve lived in Rijswijk and worked for many years as an executive secretary at Sijthoff and the Haagsche Courant. She was a great music lover, as evidenced by her frequent concert attendance and her extensive collection of classical CDs. She herself was a very talented recorder player, though she never made a big deal out of it. She first learned about the Musical Instrument Foundation following the publicity surrounding the purchase of the Guarnerius cello (then owned by Heinrich Schiff) in 1999.
Mies Brinkgreve believed it was important for young musicians to have the opportunity to play a good instrument, and she therefore decided to bequeath the vast majority of her estate to the Musical Instrument Foundation. The Foundation will therefore use the funds received to purchase musical instruments for musicians on the waiting list.
The Foundation is extremely grateful to Ms. Brinkgreve for her decision to put her wealth to work for the benefit of music. The musical instruments purchased with her funds will become part of the Foundation’s collection under the name “Brinkgreve Collection.”
