Anner Bijlsma
1934–2019

The passing of Anner Bijlsma has deeply affected all of us at the Musical Instrument Fund. Bijlsma was a great role model for the entire Dutch music community—not only because of his international career as one of the world’s greatest cellists, but above all because he dedicated his entire life to music. With Bijlsma’s passing, the Dutch music world has lost perhaps its greatest source of inspiration, pioneer, and mentor.

Bijlsma was a member of the Recommendation Committee of the Musical Instrument Fund. In 2016, he loaned his cherished Celeste Farotti cello to the Musical Instrument Fund. Lidy Blijdorp became (on the recommendation of Anner Bijlsma) the first player of the cello.
