After working for almost 15 years as a junior civil-law notary, a notarial lawyer, and a staff member in the notary's office, I started looking for something new in 2010. At the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation, I found a fantastic and diverse job where I can make a real difference for talented musicians in the Netherlands, together with my dedicated colleagues and the support of many donors.
‘We greatlyvalue our relationship withour donors’
It's wonderful to see how the foundation matches musicians with an instrument that best suits their career at that point. It's always a joy when the collection managers create a good match.
The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation is a charity that relies on the support of a large group of loyal donors. We greatly value our relationship with our donors and with others who care about our mission. As a relationship manager, it's my job to properly inform and advise all interested parties. Something I enjoy doing.
Besides donations, the foundation receives a significant portion of its income from legacies. My notarial expertise is very useful here, not only in settling the legacies and inheritances the foundation receives, but also in advising people considering leaving a legacy to the foundation.
My favourite instrument
It is, of course, difficult to choose a favourite instrument from a collection of nearly 600 instruments and 300 bows, varying in sound, color, age, and origin. Nevertheless, I have a preference for the beautiful, relatively young cello by violin maker Gudrun Kremeier. It is an instrument that sounds beautiful and also makes a great visual impression.
Gudrun Kremeier built this instrument in 2014 and presented it at an international violin-making competition in Paris, where it received much praise from the jury.
The cello was purchased from Gudrun Kremeier by The Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation in August 2015 on the occasion of Wim Dik's farewell after fourteen years as chairman of our board. In his honor, the instrument bears the name ‘Wim Dik-cello’.
