In 2011, I approached the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation for an internship under the guidance of Manon Veenendaal. In the years that followed, I continued working for the foundation in various roles. Now I'm responsible for marketing and fundraising: promoting the foundation and attracting donors. Communication, events, social media, collaborations, promotion... no two days are the same.
‘My job offersa lot of room forcreativity’
My job offers a lot of room for creativity. I enjoy working with language, the right tone, photography, design, and digital media: it all comes together in the foundation’s communications, such as the magazine, campaigns, e-newsletter, brochures, website, and social media posts.
I studied ‘Slavic Languages and Cultures’ and ‘Musicology’ in Amsterdam. I completed my Master's degree in ‘Arts Policy and Management’ in Utrecht in 2015. I've also played the cello for years. There's nothing quite like rehearsing with my string quartet or (chamber) orchestra after a workday or on the weekend. I love Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofiev (and thousands more), and sometimes I listen to jazz or old pop music at home.
My favourite instrument
On our CD with Bach's Cello Suites, still in the hands of Harriet Krijgh back then, but currently played by Bas Jongen: this Jacobs cello is a feast for the eyes and ears. I find that the cello truly has a typical cello sound, warm and melodious. And what an age! Built in Amsterdam in 1696.
