I happily support Frits and Geertje in taking care of our musical instruments and finding the right match between musician and instrument. All sorts of things cross my desk: loan requests, travel documents, maintenance reports, invoices, photography, and texts.
‘A dream job for someonewho loves music’
I once studied Dutch language and literature and took evening classes at the Graphic School. After working in advertising, I became a communications consultant. I ended up at the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation after volunteering for the Chamber Music Festival (NMF Kamermuziekfestival bij Natuurmonumenten). A dream job for someone who loves music and appreciates beautiful craftsmanship. Sometimes I still pinch myself to see if this isn’t some dream. In my spare time, I sing in a baroque choir and I am an apprentice restoration and decorative painter.
My favourite instrument
I’ve chosen our beautiful little three-quarter violin. It perfectly illustrates our work: helping, inspiring, and guiding young musicians on their journey of discovery.
While the label 'Matteo Goffriller, Venetië 1731' inside is a fake, experts agree that this is an exceptionally fine instrument, crafted in Italy in the early 18th century.
It is the ultimate 'pass-it-on' violin. It has already supported many very young musicians; as soon as one student outgrows it, the next young talent gets the chance to be inspired by it. In this way, it has helped launch the careers of artists like Haejin Park, Marcel Sutedja en Adinda van Delft. Currently, Iulia Petrutoni is the lucky player. She was nine when she joined us in 2025, and it’s clear from everything she does that she is determined to uncover the most beautiful sound from the instrument.
