Jorge Hernández Hernández

contrabas

I came to Amsterdam to continue with my studies, and after finishing I decided to stay. I was member of Phion for some years and now I play at Residentie Orkest and with different ensembles and orchestras from The Netherlands, Belgium, France and the UK.

I'm a Mexican classical double bass player. I came to Amsterdam to study with Olivier Thierry and Rick Stotijn. I graduated from my Master in 2018 and since then I´ve played with many different ensembles and orchestras. In 2020 I started as a member of PHION (former Het Gelders Orkest and Orkest van Het Oosten). And in 2024 I moved to Residentie Orkest, the one I am currently member. From 2016 I am also part of the Intercontinental Ensemble.

I've been in The Netherlands for more than 10 years and I played for several years with an instrument from Het Muziek Instrumenten Fonds collection. After all those years, my career started to grow and the gigs started to being in a higher level. So, I decided was time to also grow with a better instrument.

Thanks to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds we found the nicest bass for me. They bought the Lockey Hill at the very end of 2020, and since then I am the first to play it in their posetion. The Hill is very rich in colours. Thank to its deep, enveloping and bright sound the instrument responds very well as for orchestra, chamber music or solo.
