My name is Giulio, I'm from Italy and I studied with Ilya Grubert at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I'm most passionate about chamber music and solo playing, but I love the orchestra repertoire too. I feel honoured to be playing on this beautiful J.B. Vuillaume and I'm very grateful to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds for giving me this opportunity.
I'm 27 and started playing violin at the age of 4. I studied in Udine (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia) with Vasilij Meljnikov, Amsterdam with Ilya Grubert and Cremona with Salvatore Accardo.
I have attended numerous masterclasses with distinguished teachers such as Dora Schwarzberg, Stefan Milenković, Roman Simović, Gordan Nikolić, Lukas Hagen.
In the past, I have been awarded numerous first prizes at international competitions in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The latest award is 5th prize at the prestigious Lipizer competition.
In 2016, 2017, and 2018 I was chosen as concertmaster of the National Orchestra of Italian Conservatoires, with which I played in many theatres and at venues such as the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Arena in Verona, the Italian Embassy in Wien, the Maggio Fiorentino theatre in Florence and Festival Ravello.
Since I moved to Amsterdam in September 2021, I am happy to say I have been invited to play with Amsterdam Sinfonietta and various other Dutch orchestras. I often had the opportunity to lead the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Orchestra and on such occasions I had the pleasure of playing with Jean Guihen Queyras, Zlatomir Fung and Judith Kubitz. I am currently employed in the 1st violins of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a soloist, I have performed with the "M. Lysenko" Ucranian National Orchestra, the Slovenian Philarmonic Orchestra, the AUDiMuS orchestra, the Udine Conservatoire Orchestra and the YMEO. I also really enjoy playing with my peers in chamber music groups: the Greci-Bruno violin cello duo, active in The Netherlands, has won the Grachtenfestival competition and has played in the most important Dutch halls.
I feel incredibly lucky to be playing on such a high quality instrument as this J.B. Vuillaume and I could not have asked for a better companion in my musical journey, all thanks to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds.
