Applauded by international audiences for his musical poetry, pianist Rei Fukuoka began his
studies with Ms. Mariko Furukawa and Dr. Misuzu Tanaka. He later continued his training
with Ms. Eri Kang and the acclaimed pianist Dr. Inesa Sinkevych in the Precollege Division
of the Manhattan School of Music. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at the
Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of Professor Naum Grubert.
Rei Fukuoka is a scholarship recipient of the Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and
participates in the Academy’s intensive weeks and artistic activities. In 2025, he was also
selected to participate in Piano LAB in Belgium. In addition, he has received musical
guidance from distinguished pianists such as Mikhail Vosrensky, Alexander Kobrin, Pavel
Gililov, Barry Douglas, Milana Chernyavska, and Garrick Ohlsson.
Rei has won top prizes at numerous international competitions in both New York and Europe.
These include the Kronberg International Piano Competition, the Concerto Competition of
the Cleveland Institute of Music YAPS Program, the Mary Smart Concerto Competition, and
the New York International Music Organization Competition. Throughout his career, he has
performed at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Alden Biesen
Concert Hall in Belgium.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Rei later moved to New York City, where he attended Hunter College
High School while continuing his musical studies at the Manhattan School of Music. He is
currently based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Having lived in Japan, New York, and
Europe, Rei brings an international perspective to his musical work, with particular artistic
affinity for the music of Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, and Scriabin.
