Nicolò Bottasso (1994, Italy / The Netherlands) is a violinist, trumpeter and sound artist whose work explores the expressive potential of instruments across contemporary, folk-related and experimental music practices. His research focuses on improvisation, timbre and resonance, often combining acoustic instruments with electroacoustic processing, visual media and site-specific contexts.
Drawing from traditional music practices while engaging critically with their transformation in a globalized cultural landscape, his work reflects on how musical traditions evolve when they encounter new technologies and artistic environments.
Alongside a long-term collaboration with his brother in Duo Bottasso, he develops interdisciplinary projects presented at venues and festivals including Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, De Doelen (Rotterdam), Schlossmediale Festival, Nonagon Festival and Time in Jazz.
In 2024, he collaborated with luthier Cesar Sakellarides to develop the tenor d'amore violin, a sympathetic- string instrument combining the characteristics of the Norwegian hardanger fiddle, the baroque viola d’amore, and the baritone violin, to create an unique sonic innovation.
