Spanish Cellist living in Holland since 2013. She came here to study her Jazz Bachelor degree and her World music Master degree. She is a really active musician.
Born in 1984 in Jaén, Spain, I began studying cello at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Jaén when I was 9 years old, completing intermediate studies (grado medio) in 2002. I subsequently studied Teacher Training (Magisterio) and Musicology (B.A.) at the University of Granada.
My cello teachers include A.P. Campos, Jean Halsdorf and Jose A. Camargo.
In the early years of my classical career, I performed with my own quartet for many years. I played with the Lisbon Orchestra, and I joined the Symphony Orchestra of Andalucía, accompanying flamenco artists such as Jorge Pardo, El Lebrijano, Dorantes, Carles Benavent, Pastora Galván, Esperanza Fernández.
Granada was a very inspiring city for me. There I discovered other musical languages such as flamenco and jazz. Attracted by flamenco music, I participated in different flamenco fusion groups. I joined the large, eclectic jazz and improvising ensemble “Dubi Dubi Band” led by the saxophonist Paul Stocker, with whom I performed in several festivals and theatres around Spain. Other projects of mine, include composing for the contemporary circus company “Zen del Sur”, which won the first prize of the prestigious international TALENT competition.
I decided to move to the Netherlands in 2013 to enrich my musical journey by completing a Bachelor degree in jazz and a Master degree in world music at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, where I am currently based.
Thanks to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds, I have the possibility to play a beautiful cello, which I am in love with. This cello, along with the Lefèbvre cello (no. 160), was part of a small private collection that Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds was able to acquire in 1993. The instrument bears the label "J.B. Salomon á Paris", but was built by G. Mangin in Mirecourt around 1850, as evidenced by the marking on the inside of the instrument.
