Hello, I am a pianist Maria Nemtsova and I am enormously grateful to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds (Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation) for such a wonderful opportunity to practice on the fantastic quality grand piano at home. It makes everything so much more fun!
I am an Amsterdam based concert pianist of Russian-Jewish origin. I began my career after winning numerous International competitions including the Gold Medal at the Isabelle Bond Showcase in London, Fort Worth Concerto competition (USA), “Rosario Marciano International Piano competition” (Vienna, Austria). In addition to my solo achievements I got the first prize at the International Chamber Music competition «Marco Fiorindo» in Italy with my «VitaDuo» ensemble.
My engagements include performances at major world venues including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York, where I gave a solo recital in 2010; Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Kings Place and Steinway Hall in London, Bösendorfer Hall and Ehrbar-Saal in Vienna, National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing and Shanghai Oriental Arts Center in China, and others.
I also appeared at the International Festivals in Italy, UK, USA, Poland and other countries. I was very lucky to collaborate with Boris Brovtsyn (violin, UK), Pavel Nersesyan (piano, Russia/USA), Arno Bornkamp (saxophone, Netherlands), Jean-Denis Michat (saxophone, France), Artiom Shishkov (violin, Belarus), and many others.
I am a founder of “Re:FormersFest” and the charitable project “Music for peace” which includes concerts and master-classes for young musicians who live in today's conflict zones. Within the project we went to perform to more than twenty countries including Kosovo, Georgia, Armenia, Tunisia and others.
Though my repertoire includes many classical works, I am also very much interested in performances of contemporary music. Several pieces have been specially written for or dedicated to me. In addition to my three solo CDs, I have recorded with the saxophonist Vitaly Vatulya and the bass opera singer Dmitry Stepanovich.
I started my professional musical education at the age of five. My formal education includes degrees from the Tchaikovsky College of Music (Moscow) graduated magna cum laude and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire (graduated with honours) with professor Yuri Slessarev.
I was the only pianist who was accepted as a William Smith scholar to the Royal College of Music in London in 2007, where I completed MMus with professor Dmitri Alexeev. During my studies Maria gave a number of solo and chamber recitals throughout the UK, Germany, Italy, Tunisia, Mongolia, and USA, one of which was the Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Gala Concert in the presence of HRH The Earl of Wessex.
In 2008 I was accepted at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica (Imola, Italy) where I studied with Maestro L.N.Margarius (student of Regina Horowitz). In 2012 I successfully completed my Artist Diploma in Italy and MMus programme at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, where I got a full scholarship and a Derek Butler Award, resulting in a performance at the Wigmore Hall in May 2011. In London I was studying with Professor Deniz Gelenbe.
I took master-classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Dmitri Bashkirov, Norma Fischer and many others.
