Hello! My name is Jasmim Mandillo. I’m portuguese and I moved to Amsterdam in 2020 to study with Gideon Den Herder in Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I’m currently finishing my masters with Ella van Poucke in the same institution.
I’m so grateful to the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation for giving me the opportunity to play such wonderful cello built in 1760 by an anonymous english luthier.
With such a quality instrument, I feel I can develop my musical skills and express myself in a remarkably and subtle way. Being a daily companion, playing this cello, is like a dream that came true!
I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in November 2002. I began my musical studies at the age of 6 in Lisbon and finished my High School education at Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional in 2020 with Luís André Ferreira.
It was in Lisbon that I started to deepen my Chamber Music experience, integrating different groups and being awarded three times in the Jovem.com national competition. It is worth mentioning my piano trio - Éremi Trio - coached by Ana Tomasik, with whom I attended the music course Airas Nunes Aula de Cámara in Santiago de Compostela and masterclasses with Xavier Gagnepain, Deniz Gelenbe, Rita Wagner, among others. I was also a member of a string quartet, coached by Luís André Ferreira, with whom I had a masterclass with Kyril Zlotnikov, a member of the prestigious Jersualem String Quartet. Currently, I’m a member of a string quartet coached by Dimitri Ferschtman and Johannes Leertouwer.
I’ve participated in several masterclasses with: Susanne Muller-Hornbach, Xavier Gagnepain, Ophélie Gaillard, Michael Strauss, Paulo Gaio Lima, Maria de Macedo, Luis Claret, Filipe Quaresma and Kyril Zlotnikov. I also had classes with professors, Claudius Popp, Sennu Laine, Stephan Fork, Hans-Jakob Eschenburg, Rafael Rosenfeld, Jeroen den Herder, among others.
I was a member of the Young Portuguese Orchestra (JOP) in the 2018-19 season, where I performed at the Young Euro Classic 2019 Festival, at Konzerthaus Berlin and at the Vară Magică 2019 Festival, at the Romanian Athenaeum, Bucharest.
I held several solo recitals, namely at ZezereArts Festival in Portugal, Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, and also a recital at the Conservatory of Music in Murcia, Spain, under the Erasmus + MusIntegrACTION Program.
I was the 1st prize winner at the national solo competition Jovem.com in 2018.
Besides playing the cello, I’ve been part of an experimental theatre and contemporary dance group and a choir for 10 years (https://coroinfantilul.wixsite.com/ciul-english) and I feel those experiences have enhanced my development as a musician.
My passion is playing the cello, to perform and communicate through art, as I believe it’s very important for a 21st century musician to have versatile communication tools.
