I was born in Pernik, Bulgaria, in a family of engineers, who fostered in me a keen interest in mathematics and logic, as well as languages. The interest in music came after meeting my first violin teacher, who’s been an inspiration all along the way, and was strenghtened through the subsequent tuition and guidance of my teachers in my conservatory studies - Verka Stefanova, Yossif Radionov and Lucy van Dael. I graduated from the Conservatory of Amterdam in 2011 and have been based in the Netherlands since.
My main musical focus has led me to collaboration with period instrument ensembles and orchestras such as Collegium 1704, Ensemble Odyssee, Castello Consort, Ensemble Cordevento, Van Swieten Society, Ensemble Calliope, Gli Angeli Geneve, Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw, Nederlandse Bachvereniging and others.
In 2016, together with colleagues from Collegium 1704, we formed a string quartet, the Reicha quartet, channelling our interested in classical and early romantic repertoire for our ensemble, diving as deep as we can into the performance pracitce of the period, as well as uncovering gems from that repetoire. In 2019 our debut CD featured a premiere recording of Reicha’s Quatuor Scientifique, a truly fascinating and original opus.
The classical bow, made in 2001 by Andreas Grütter, of the collection of Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds is a fantastic tool to explore this kind of repertoire and I feel privileged and grateful for the chance to use it.
