Filipe Fernandes

My name is Filipe, I was born in Madeira, in Portugal and I’m tremendously happy to play this beautiful Tononi from the Het Muziek Instrumenten Fonds.

After finishing the conservatory in Madeira, I came to Amsterdam where, with the support of a scholarship for the Gulbenkian Foundation, I did both my bachelors and masters at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the classes of Ilya Grubert and Maria Milstein

At the moment I am a violinist at the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and part of Roctet, a string octet formed by prominent musicians of the same orchestra.

Besides my connection with RFO, I am also part of the Music Collective Amsterdam, a group formed by members who hold key positions in the Netherlands’ leading orchestras. The ensemble focuses on playing great symphonic works in a much smaller scale, often with one player per section.

Playing this Tononi has been a discovery!! It’s a joy to look into all the endless colors and possibilities of this instrument and I couldn’t be more grateful to the Het Muziek Instrumenten Fonds for this opportunity.
