Elana Cooper

viool, vioolstrijkstok

Having grown up in the US and then studied in Canada, I was inspired to move to The Netherlands to study baroque violin. I am now happy to be part of the Dutch musical scene.

My name is Elana Cooper (born in 1995) and I am currently based in The Netherlands where I perform on baroque violin, baroque viola, and modern violin. I perform with ensembles including Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Barokorkest La Sorpresa, Florilegium Musicum, Utrecht Company of Music, and Dutch Baroque Orchestra. I participated in the 2023 Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Experience Scheme in London and Theresia Orchestra. I was a Next Generation Artist in Early Music Vancouver's 2023 Summer Festival. I've also played with ensembles in the US and Canada including the Oregon Bach Festival Period Orchestra, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and Pacific Baroque Orchestra.

I completed my bachelor's studies in Violin Performance at the University of British Columbia in 2017. While in Vancouver BC, I also studied baroque violin with Chloe Meyers and Marc Destrubé. I studied baroque violin as a Master’s student at the Historical Performance Institute at Indiana University with Stanley Ritchie. In 2023 I finished my master's studies in baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where I studied with Kati Debretzeni.

I am very grateful to Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds for the use of my violin and bow which are allowing me to bring my sound and playing to the next level.
