History of this instrument

This violin was purchased by the Musical Instrument Fund in 2001 from a Dutch violin maker. Its previous owner was the Czech violinist Pavel Šorm (1935–2000), who taught at the Utrecht Conservatory, among other institutions. This Hendrick Jacobs violin is in exceptionally good condition, making it a very interesting example for violin makers who wish to delve into traditional Dutch violin making. The violin is regularly used by experts during international lectures on the history of Dutch violin making. In 2002, the violin was loaned to Ron de Haas. Since 2012, Igor Ruhadze has been the violin’s current player.
