Teddy Sicking

violin, violin bow

Teddy Sicking (September 20, 2003) is a Dutch violinist and is currently in her final year of a dual bachelor’s degree in jazz and classical violin at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In June 2025, she graduated from the classical program with a grade of 9; in addition to works by Poulenc and Bartók, she performed her own composition for violin and multi-effects pedal, titled “Adventures in the Aviary: Metal Bird.” During her classical studies, she was taught by Eliot Lawson and is currently majoring in jazz under Jeffrey Bruinsma and Jasper Blom.

In January 2025, Teddy made her television debut with her original compositions “Notes on Nimrod” (based on Edward Elgar’s famous composition) as part of “Podium Klassiek,” in collaboration with pianist Sven Figee. In 2023, she served as concertmaster of the Jong Metropole Orchestra and was honored with the 2023 Keep an Eye Outstanding Talent Award.

Teddy is active as a jazz soloist and is the frontwoman of her own jazz fusion band, TJ’s Pretty People. In both original compositions and her own arrangements of well-known jazz pieces, Teddy experiments extensively with electronic effects and the combination of violin and vocals. Her main goal is to introduce a new violin sound to the current jazz scene. TJ’s Pretty People has caused a sensation at various venues and festivals, such as the Bimhuis, the Grachtenfestival, and the Nacht van de Viool at TivoliVredenburg. In April 2025, TJ’s Pretty People reached the semifinals of the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award 2025, and in January 2024, the group performed in the finals of the Young Makers Prize at the Dutch Violin Competition.

In addition, Teddy has been freelancing with the Metropole Orchestra since 2022, toured with the show *Yes-Girl* at the 2025 De Parade Theater Festival, and performed as a substitute with the Sven Hammond Big Band, *Hadestown* at Carré, the Marmoucha Orchestra, Woodcraft, Parra.dice, and the Edson Ensemble. She also works as a session violinist and has recorded at leading studios such as Miraval Studios and Galaxy Studios. Teddy plays a violin (1918) and bow (1910–'50) by Paul Max Möller, on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund.
