Silke Kolfschoten

violin, violin bow

When I was five years old, I started taking violin lessons after being introduced to the instrument during music class here at school. I was immediately fascinated by the sound of the violin. I took my first lessons in Kraków (Poland) with Aurelia Jaworski, after which I continued my studies in Amsterdam with Monique Dowgwillo-Cornelissen. The lessons were taught according to the international Suzuki method, supplemented by workshops in Poland, Germany, and Belgium, as well as gala concerts in Davos (Congress Center) and London (Royal Albert Hall). I have also played in various orchestras, such as Wonderful Music at the Amsterdam Music School, Jonge Strijkers Amsterdam, the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra, and the Sweelinck Orchestra.

In 2016, I began taking lessons with Liesbeth Ackermans at the Academy for Musical Talent, and starting in 2022, with Peter Brunt at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. I currently play in the National Youth Orchestra (NJO) and also serve as its ambassador.

I play a violin from around 1830 attributed to François Caussin (Neufchâteau). The deep and enchanting sound of this violin made a deep impression on me. My bow is by Franz Albert Markneukirchen (Nuremberg) from around 1900. Both were provided by the Musical Instrument Fund in 2018.
