Scarlett Waakop Reijers

cello, cello bow

Dear Reader, my name is Scarlett Waakop Reijers and I am a cellist. I live in The Hague, where I am delighted to be studying at the Royal Conservatory with Jan Ype Nota and Michel Strauss.

I play a beautiful cello made by Paul Max Möller in 1929 (Amsterdam) from the Musical Instrument Fund.

This instrument has truly been an eye-opener for me; from the very first note, I fell in love with its resonance and spirit. I admire its sound and possibilities every single day as if it were the first time. It continues to surprise me, and I’m sure it will keep doing so for a long time to come!

In the coming years, I hope to perform frequently with my chamber music groups, gain plenty of orchestral experience, and explore solo repertoire.

Although the cello is my greatest passion in music, I also regularly devote myself to composition, singing, and piano.

Besides music, I have far too many other hobbies, such as painting and sketching, crafts, and sports, and I love traveling and good food.
