Matthia Elders

violin, violin bow

My name is Matthia Elders (2003), and I am studying with Tjeerd Top at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Master of Music). I am incredibly grateful to be able to play this beautiful violin by Ettore Soffritti, made in Ferrara in 1927. I am really looking forward to the new adventures I will experience with this violin!

My name is Matthia Elders (born 2003). I am studying with Tjeerd Top at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, pursuing a Master’s degree in Classical Music. In June 2026, I completed my Bachelor’s degree under Maria Milstein at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Prior to that, I took violin and chamber music lessons from András Czifra and Benzion Shamir, as part of the preparatory program at Codarts Rotterdam, and also from Lis Perry (Radio Philharmonic Orchestra). I began taking violin lessons at the age of three with Mea Fontijn at the Young Talent Academy of the Rotterdam Hellendaal Music Institute / Codarts Rotterdam.

I have participated in masterclasses led by, among others, Laurent Albrecht Breuninger (International Summer Academy for Young Artists, Marktoberdorf, 2018 and 2019), Richard Wolfe, Niall Brown, and Lis Perry (Meisterakademie Konz Musik Festival, 2021), as well as those led by Stefano Pagliani and Ilya Grubert (Masterclass Internazionali di Musica di Portogruaro, 2022 and 2023). In the summer of 2023, I also participated in the Summer Academy of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with the Hera Quartet, taking masterclasses with Bruno Giuranna.

Since September 2025, I have been concertmaster of the UvA orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck, conducted by Jurjen Hempel.

I play a beautiful Ettore Soffritti violin (Ferrara, 1927) and a “Meunier à Paris” bow (Amsterdam, 20th century), both on loan from the Musical Instrument Fund.
