grand piano
As early as 2006, the Royal Conservatory in The Hague approached the Musical Instrument Fund with a request to have a fortepiano installed, so that the large fortepiano class would have the opportunity to study on a sound, historically accurate instrument. Until 2019, a Gerard Tuinman fortepiano from 2001 (a Walter copy) was played extensively there. In 2021, a rare, late-Romantic grand piano, built by Streicher (Vienna, 1874), was installed for the same purposes. A similar grand piano was once owned by composer Johannes Brahms.
Students from other conservatories, or professional pianists interested in the specific characteristics of this instrument, may contact the Musical Instrument Fund at 020-6221255 or Head of Collections Frits Schutte. Access to the Streicher can then be arranged in consultation with the conservatory.
