David Alonso Molina

violin

I am a musician of many facets. I play, I sing, I teach and I build the tools with which I perform.

I am in constant search to improve myself as a whole musician and to develop this artistry of being a musician.

With violin as my main instrument, I embark on a journey to discover the music of the past through singing and playing several string instruments such as viola, viola da gamba, viola da spalla, and cello as well as with wind instruments such as the natural trumpet.

I am a Spanish musician born into a family of musicians. I have graduated in piano and in violin at the Conservatory Superior of Music of Valencia.

In 2008 I moved to the Netherlands where I obtained a bachelor's degree in Early Music from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, specializing in violin. I have dedicated my student time to my main instrument as well as to the natural trumpet as a secondary.

Later I concluded a master's degree in violin and viola in the department of early music from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht. In parallel, I have studied plainchant, counterpoint, and Gregorian singing.

I dedicate my musician life also to other musical activities that complete me as a musician, those include archery (string instruments' bow making) and historically informed pedagogy.

I play a violin by Hendrik Jacobs (Amsterdam 1693), generously on loan from Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds. This beautiful instrument allows me to bring into national and foreign concert halls the sound of music pearls of the past.

I am a founding member of La Academia de los Nocturnos, El concierto de Violines, Sancti Gregorii Singers, and Ars Lusitana.

As an orchestra musician, I collaborate with groups such as the Eighteenth Century Orchestra, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Les Esprits Animaux, Ensemble Odyssee, Musica Poetica, Toronto Classical Consort, etc.

I have toured in Europe, Japan, and Canada performing at festivals such as La Folle Journée, Ambronay, Ghent, Brugges, Dag van La Petite Band, Nuremberg, Granada, Úbeda and Baeza, Guadalajara, Utrecht and Sint-Truiden.

I have recorded several CD's as a violinist, as well as a violist and singer for internationally renowned record labels such as Armonia Mundi, Pan Classics, Brilliant Classics, Musica Ficta, and Custos Records.
